About The Eastern Shore of Virginia.
On The Eastern Shore of Virginia, you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful farmland, majestic marshes, tall pines and expansive beaches. This picturesque and unspoiled peninsula is very sparsely developed, with a significant portion of the land under conservatorship or held by families and individuals for many generations.
But leaving the big city hustle and bustle behind doesn’t mean you have to leave the conveniences. The Eastern Shore of Virginia is home to excellent medical care facilities, vibrant dining and cultural opportunities as well as unique shopping venues and myriad outdoor activities.
Cape Charles is a historically rich, former ferry and railroad town located at the southern end of Northampton County. It is believed to have received its name from Captain Christopher Newport in the early 1600’s in honor of King James’ second son. Cape Charles is home to Bay Creek Resort and Club, a gated community that includes golf courses carved by two of the sport’s most preeminent architects.
Eastville is the Northampton County seat. There you will find the Old Courthouse, which was built in 1731. Courthouses and court records have been an integral part of Eastville’s history for the last 300 years. In fact, Eastville is the home of the oldest continuous court records in the United States. We’re sure you’ll agree that there is something magical about the many lovingly restored buildings in this delightful little town.
Further north in Accomack County are many areas of interest, including the waterfront town of Onancock, the Virginia Space Flight Center and NASA Wallops Flight Center. Chincoteague Island is a popular tourist destination with its access to the Assateague Island National Seashore and the famous resident pony herds.
